            • Points add up daily and can be used for rewards and activities.
          • Ultimately there are lots of rewards that MLMS gives out to get students to come to school and enjoy their time at school.

  • Utah Law
    • Utah Code Title 53G Chapter 6, Part 2 deals with Compulsory Education, outlining requirements for parents to ensure school-age children attend public or private school, procedures for handling truancy and educational neglect (like notices of violation, parental meetings), and definitions of valid absences, with key sections covering parental duties, approved absences, and educational neglect. It establishes a system where schools address chronic absenteeism by notifying parents, potentially leading to further action if non-compliance continues, while also defining what constitutes valid reasons for a child's absence
    • Attendance supports: For students in grades 7 and above the statute instead provides for truancy notices and interventions sets under 53G-6-203 rather than compulsory education violations. Local districts issue truancy notices and follow district procedures to address attendance issues (meetings, interventions, support plans, truancy, specialists, etc.)
  • Overview of the School Improvement Plan process
    • We need to start coming up with a plan
    • We did not have time to go over it but we will have this at the next meeting.
  • Public Input
    • The rewards and activities seem to make MLMS feel fun.
    • Is the refuge population possibly not understanding the importance of school a reason? Spencer Holmgren it is hard to say but it is not the sole reason. There are also different thoughts and feelings here at MLMS. We don't want to be a bad guy but we do need to have standards.
    • 75% of students in Utah are reading well below grade level. Spencer Holmgren will be discussing the literacy block at MLMS at the next board meeting.
    • Parents would like to see a homeroom time experience here at MLMS to help students feel more seen and comfortable and have a connection with an adult at MLMS. Spencer will think more about this and talk to others to learn more.
    • Is Citizenship subjective between classes? Yes it is based on the teachers expectations and how they run their class which is not the same across the board.
  • Next Steps
