      • Salaries and benefits - $14702.00
    • Funds available for next year; $232,255.53, Planned Expenditures: $208,043.00 Remaining amount (carry over 2025-2026) $24,212.53
    • We have about $1000 to spend. That we cannot use for carry over.
      • This must be spent on this year's goal.
      • We can use it on treats for students' growth.
        • Motioned approved 4/7/25
  • Review School Attendance Data and Attendance Supports
    • Last year's Numbers:This date includes excluded and unexcused absences.
      • The United states has a chronic absenteeism rate for k-12 students of 28%
      • The State of Utah has a chronic absenteeism rate for k-12 students of 23.8%
      • MLMS has a chronic absenteeism rate of 40%
  • This has been on our minds since Covic.
    • Current practices:
      • Parent liaison
      • Mountaineer awards
      • End of term treats= gatorade
      • Attendance is tied to ability to attend activities: Dances, field trips, etc.
      • Tardies: 3 restitution classes. Meet with counselor and parents, meet with principals and parents, attend mediation, court referral
      • Chronic absentee (missing 18 days of school for the year): three letters home, meet with counselor and parents, meet with principals and parents, attend mediation, court referral.
        • Review every friday as an admin, attendance secretary and counseling team.
        • The letters home are for unexcused absences.
        • Just brought back the legal consequences since covid.
        • Greatest help is the mediation- Spencer has seen students that go here turn around. Is this the most effective way?
          • Normally this will happen 17-18 days missed or some many tardies from the student.
    • John Taggart Presentation:
      • Last year 42.3% chronic absenteeism
      • Current 40.4% chronic absenteeism
      • 453 absent for 10% of the school year
      • 206 absent for over 30 days.
      • What are our needs?
        • Students must be present to learn.
        • If students are missing more than 10% they are a drop out risk and not able to be at grade level.
      • Northwest MS attendance change:
        • KSL Article:
          • Absenteeism 42%
          • 10-13%
          • They help kids feel connected and motivated through beginning to a house.
        • Observation form site visit:
          • Recognition for attendance/tardies via houses.
          • 8 houses recognitions/competitions per year or a mid term and end of term recognition.
          • House recognitions earned from attendance and tardies only.
          • Sway bands from school store for behavior recognition only
            • For behavior- to empower the teachers they recognized them by giving them SWAG Bands and they gave it out to students who were doing well. Students would trade the band in for a prize.
          • 4 hall monitors to help with attendance and neighborhood.
          • Quarterly expectation assembles.
          • Tardies had to do Saturday school or lunch detention.
          • For the house parties they did 2 per term. With a reset in between. So twice a year students could reset.
        • Teachers input:
          • They feel that it would be easier to use. Everything set up
        • No Cell phone policy-
          • Helped with issues when it comes to drama.
  • Public Input
    • High school seems like they already have this set up.
    • Would this be more money?
      • It should be free but we can see where we could spend money to make it easier on us (hall monitors).
    • When students are dropped off we see students walking to McDonalds.
      • Can we have someone out there getting students to get in?
      • More monitors would help with this.
    • YECS- We the people- Can we get it going into High School?
      • Grant to MLMS 3 years ago.
    • We feel this program is good to bring unity to the school- we should push this more.
  • Next Steps
    • We are continuing to work on this issue.
    • We have the ability to put some money here to help.
    • John will meet with the team on Wednesday and will report back.
