School Mission – Went over the school mission statement.

Celebrations: Discussed Fun Park reward.

Budget Update – Tuesday approved the amendment for Love and Logic training. The expense will go a little above. We will use additional funds at the school level to supplement. $227,000

Questions about the budget:

Discussed training 5 faculty members becoming trainers in Love and Logic. Discussed using 16 hours of training and compensation and materials for that. Total it would cost for everyone would be about $34,000 which is not feasible, but we can train those 5 faculty members.

Jessica asked about the motivational training and whether we’d be moving forward with that. We would still like to work with USU professor and grad students to help with motivation.

Digital Citizenship:

  • We discussed our different security and management systems. Teachers use GoGuardian to filter content for students.
  • We discussed the levels of internet filtering and the levels (elementary, middle, high school, and staff.) These filters help admin and staff to be aware of what inappropriate or unsafe– searches are happening so we can help keep our students safe.
  • Discussed how filters are not perfect and what we provide to help students continue to be safe (CTE classes, review with students, etc.)
  • Jessica asked about issues with content searches and what gets through: Most often things do not get through the filters, but we do have students searching things regularly (3-4 a week) that alert admin.
  • Discussed Student email accounts: Bullying doesn’t always get flagged in emails but we can monitor in GoGuardian.
  • EdTech Library: This helps teachers can vet and approve different software to be used in the classroom.
  • Responsible Use Policy: Students sign this policy, as do parents to say they will use their devices appropriately. Parents also sign a form that explains that electronics will be monitored etc.
  • Electronic Device Policy at MLMS: Our policy is that devices must remain silent and away in class unless teachers approve use. Only one headphone may be on during class. If students have their phone, teachers may confiscate it. A second violation means a parent must come pick up the phone. After a third, admin, parent, and student meet.
  • Governor Cox’s letter to us all asks that we should have a 0 use policy in classrooms. Phone caddies are encouraged. Some teachers at MLMS already use these. Some use this to take a role.
  • Admin discussed streamlining phone policies to be more in line with Logan High. The general policy will be discussed with faculty to see where faculty and staff stand.

School Improvement Plan:

  • The plan should be given in March to then be approved. Our current plan
  • 2023-2024: 80 % of our students master learning as measured by team. Common Formative Assessments are given for each essential learning.
  • English and math growth was lower than science the rise test.
  • About a ⅓ of the kids are ELL –proficiency comes from the Wida test.
  • 35% of students missed more than 90 percent of the school year.
  • Chronic absentee –student resists coming to school, anxiety, single parent works and struggles to get kids to school and have to stay at home to watch the kids. Some kids have to get themselves to school.
  • Parents not knowing the best skills of how to help their child or the time to help their child figure out the anxiety.

Possible changes for School Improvement Plan:

  • Class size reduction
  • Change focus of parent liaison to not only a resource for parents, but helping students with absentee problems
