Mt. Logan Community Council - Minutes

March 6, 2018 - 3:45 P.M.

Attendance: Renee Shaffer, Melissa Dahle, Farina Buttars, Jennifer Duncan, Candace Pratt, Karlee Fryer, Melissa McRae, Katie Chapman, Dave Wind, Amy Cox, Julie Benson, Daryl Guymon

Minutes - Motion to approve by Jennifer Duncan, seconded by Farina Buttars - approved

Anything happening to make the office more visible and the school more safe? Anything at the middle school to make it moresafe will be expensive - parents need to contact Principal and Superintendent

Clean Air - The school safety committee is encouraging community councils and PTA people to encourage a reduction in idling around elementary schools. Cars idling around schools puts out as much pollution as all manufacturing. Ideas to get people to quit idling. Start a LEAF club here that could write up something to distribute to people in cars. We have a conflict because we encourage parents to keep cars on to move forward. We need to work on this for next year.

School improvement plan - Discussion happened about our most pressing needs and the amount needed to fund each.

Currently 350 students use the Read Naturally software - ESL, special Ed, and Academy students

We can't have a full-time person do the attendance and the reading portion of Americorps. We would have to hire two part-time people.

After discussion it was decided that Americorp funding be reduced to one part time person and put more money to after school homework help and a small amount into instructional assistants,

Motion to approve Julie, second by Amy Cox - unanimous vote to approve draft 2.

Standard Based Assessment - Is this district wide or just MLMS? District wide. How are you going to implement in each class and make sure the teachers are following? There will be things in place to mandate compliance. We want to take 2-3 big steps the next couple of years until we get this fully implemented. Have celebrations for citizenship grades as well.

Meeting adjourned at 4:52
