Keep in mind that it is impossible to compare school to school--every building has different use patterns, different R-values of insulation, and different heating and cooling systems. This not a competition. We are all on the same team.

Cost avoidance is determined by multiplying consumption rates from the base year (the year prior to the energy program) by today's utility rates.
This provides a projection of what expenses would be without our conservation efforts. Daily weather data is also accounted for in these projections.

(Base year consumption x today's rates = projected costs).

Actual monthly expenses are then subtracted from projected expenses to determine cost avoidance for each month.

(Projected costs - actual costs = cost avoidance).

This is all done through Energy CAP software--the industry standard for energy conservation programs.
